Wednesday morning started with coffee, camaraderie, and a touch of poetry. Our Interim President Jankees kicked things off with a warm welcome, setting the tone for another spirited gathering. Mike Vink treated everyone to a beautifully crafted poem by Breyten Breytenbach, a lyrical journey through the Cape and Karoo that left the room feeling just a little more poetic than when we arrived.
With the mood set, it was time to dive into business, which for us means service. Projects are moving along with some exciting developments! The Word of Hope fence project is in full swing, with RC Luton generously allowing a two-week extension to get everything in order. Quotes for palisade fencing are rolling in, and a shiny new Memorandum of Understanding is in the works to keep project processes smooth and rolling.
Speaking of opportunities, PETS (President Elect Training Seminar) is happening on March 15th and 16th, and here’s the secret—it’s not just for President-Elects. Anyone eager to sharpen their leadership skills and soak up some Rotary wisdom should absolutely join in. Consider it a crash course in inspiration, networking, and getting even more fired up about service.
On the fundraising front, things are heating up. A speaker evening is in the works, where we bring in an incredible speaker, and raise some serious funds while engaging in thought-provoking conversations.
As we look forward to the Golf Day on March 28th we continue to rally together and make this event a hole-in-one. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic day of competition, laughs, and, of course, making a difference.
Meanwhile, book lovers, mark your calendars! The Donate a Loo fundraising book sale is happening from February 27th to March 2nd, and it’s the perfect chance to grab some great reads while supporting an important cause.
The morning wrapped up with a classic Rotary brag session, led by the ever-enthusiastic Paul Kasango, before we closed as per usual with the Four-Way Test.
As Breyten Breytenbach so beautifully put it, “We walk, we journey, we arrive.” And with each meeting, project, and initiative, Rotary continues to move forward—together, with purpose and plenty of heart.
